This Peugeot 106 uses 1 liter of petrol per 32 kilometers!- Project Ecotuning

Over the past two years, Ritsert Mans and Jesse Kraal have investigated how economical a car can be.In this video they tell all about their unique Peugeot 106!

The regular Autovisie reader can probably remember how we enthusiastically started the 'ecotunin g project' in mid-2019, where we provided an update every four weeks on how we were trying to make our Peugeot 106 more economical. The interior was removed, the car was lowered and, to top it all off, a large tail section had to ensure considerably lower air resistance. We concluded in February 2020 with the words: “A friendly inspector expects few problems in getting the car MOT approved. However, to be on the safe side, we will soon be doing a long economy drive before the MOT expires.”That turned out a bit differently. Thanks to corona, the MOT expired on April 15, 2020, before the project had come to a satisfactory conclusion.

A few months later we deliver the 106 to our friends at Profile The Hague, asking if they can make an inventory of what is needed for a fresh MOT.Not a daily occurrence for them either, so when an inspector from the RDW comes by for a sample, they also ask him to take a look at our little thrift store. The assessment that we stayed within the permitted limits appears to be quite correct, but the sharp edges of the aluminum tail cannot count on the inspector's approval.A roll of rubber corner profile and tube of super glue are sufficient to tackle this rejection point.

On October 8 we received the redeeming phone call: the Peugeot has its MOT again! We pamper it with fresh filters, spark plugs and a can of nice thin 5W30 oil and start a longer test drive in good spirits.

You can see everything about the outcomes of the 106 adventure in the video above.
