Kendall County is nearly ready to replace the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system at KenCom, which is the county's 911 center.
Facilities Director Dan Polvere says the switchover will be done next month and overnight.
In June, the old UPS failed during a power outage and KenCom lost power. The county's backup, which is Grundy County's 911 center, began taking Kendall County 911 calls so there was no interruption of service. KenCom also sent some staff to Grundy County to help with the increased call load. The outage only lasted hours before a workaround was found.
Polvere says the new system will also be kept in a cooler storage room. He expects the cost to be under $200,000. During the changeover, Grundy County Will handle 911 calls from Kendall County.
